TMost of the time, we identify our fatness or fitness by getting our weights alone or when we see excess flab in our stomach or hips. However, these factors alone are inadequate to tell if you are still in the normal range for physical condition. You may think you are thinner than before but it does not mean that you are not overweight. To provide a solution in the growing rate of obesity, nutritionists have developed a system of categorizing the body weight of an individual, which we generally call as BMI. You most likely have heard about BMI in your physical education class, or perhaps, a science class. You know that it is used to identify if you are overweight or underweight. Before you start working out in a gym, it is a good idea to have a trainer evaluate your BMI. Aside from what you commonly hear about BMI, there are many other reasons why it is very important for your physical health
BMI Math and Calculation
Body Mass Index, commonly termed as BMI, is an approximate measurement of your body’s total fats content. Two factors affect your BMI. These are your height and your weight. It is very easy to compute your BMI. The body mass formula is very easy to follow. All you need to do is divide your weight over height with some sort of multiplying. If you go to the internet, you will have software or online calculator that would measure your BMI. However, the formula is very simple that you need no kind of calculator whatsoever to compute your BMI.
What does your BMI indicate?
Now you have computed your BMI. What’s next?
Knowing what your BMI alone is not enough to determine if you are on the right shape and physical state. After computing for it, the next thing to do is determine the bracket by which you fall- overweight; normal; underweight. If your result falls between 18.25 and 25, cheer up because you are in the normal or average weight. However, if your BMI falls between 16.0 and 18.5, you are underweight and if it is 25 to 30, it is important to start working on a nutritional plan because it means you belong in the overweight bracket. Knowing about BMI and it is calculated will definitely give you many health benefits. You may think you are healthy for you and never get ill but it does not mean everything in your body is in normal condition. It is important to stay on top of your body fat in order to maintain your fitness goals.
